Why Equine Massage Therapy?

Elevating a horse's performance and well-being involves optimising its musculoskeletal health through advanced therapeutic techniques. Equine massage therapy provides a targeted, professional intervention that goes beyond simple relaxation. By focusing on deep tissue manipulation and myofascial release, this therapy effectively addresses underlying muscular tension, trigger points, and adhesions that can restrict range of motion and cause compensatory strain. This process increases circulation, which promotes the reoxygenation of muscle fibres and the flushing of metabolic waste products, such as lactic acid, essential for reducing soreness and accelerating post-exercise recovery. Furthermore, by influencing the autonomic nervous system, it can shift the horse from a sympathetic (fight-or-flight) to a parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) state, promoting deep physical and mental relaxation. Ultimately, a customised massage programme acts as a critical, proactive measure for both injury prevention and performance enhancement.

Tailored to your Horses Needs

£45

Sessions begin with a thorough collection of the horses history and medical background, this is then followed by a static and dynamic assessment. Expertise in equine biomechanics is used to observe gait and posture, identifying areas of asymmetry or restricted movement.

The therapy then becomes a targeted plan, using a variety of sports and remedial techniques to address the specific problems identified in the initial assessment. This could involve:

  • Deep tissue massage: To break down adhesions and release tension deep within the muscle tissue.

  • Trigger point therapy: To deactivate specific knots of muscle fibres that cause pain and restrict movement.

  • Myofascial release: To stretch and release the connective fascia that surrounds the muscles, improving overall range of motion.

  • Remedial Stretches: To encourage Range of Motion and flexion.

Aftercare and follow up advice will be discussed and a detailed report will be provided via either the Equigate App or Email.  â€‹
